> Learn how to use Obsidian properties, an enhanced version of Markdown frontmatter.

The most recent release of [Obsidian](https://curiouslychase.com/tools/obsidian/) allows you to view your Markdown YAML frontmatter as property fields.

This is a huge unlock for anyone who uses [Obsidian](https://curiouslychase.com/tools/obsidian/) properties for publishing or filtering with [the DataView plugin](https://curiouslychase.com/posts/dataview-obsidian/).

# Adding Properties To A Note

You can add properties to a note in one of two ways:

- Click "+ Add property"
- Use the command palette and choose "Add file property"
- Use the keyboard shortcut "CMD + ;" (Mac) or "Ctrl + ;" (Windows)

I love how easy this update makes it to add properties to notes, especially since I use [Obsidian to publish my notes to my website](https://curiouslychase.com/posts/how-i-publish-obsidian-files-to-the-web/).
