# Homebrew

> An overview of Homebrew (the MacOS package manager) from my perspective and experience.

I use Homebrew to install dependencies on my [MacOS](https://curiouslychase.com/posts/macos/) machines.

I generate a `Brewfile` in `~/dotfiles` and run `brew install` from within that folder. I generate the file by running the following in a [terminal](https://curiouslychase.com/tools/iterm2/):

```shell
md-tangle <PATH TO VAULT>/42\ -\ Dotfiles/Homebrew.md
```

# Packages I Install

```shell tangle:~/dotfiles/Brewfile
brew "ccat"
```
## Raycast

[Raycast](https://curiouslychase.com/tools/raycast/) is the system launcher I use (as an alternative to Spotlight or Alfred)

```shell tangle:~/dotfiles/Brewfile
brew "raycast"
```

## VS Code

[VS Code](https://curiouslychase.com/posts/vs-code/) is the primary editor I use.

```shell tangle:~/dotfiles/Brewfile
cask "visual-studio-code"
```
